One of the most rewarding parts of creating a commissioned sculpture is receiving photos of the piece once it’s been in place long enough for the surrounding landscape to grow and become part of the artwork itself.
Recently, I received two photos from a deeply meaningful memorial. A mother, whose son tragically passed away in a car accident, commissioned the sculpture a couple of years ago. She had sent me a photo of him sitting on a dock, envisioning him as an angel at the foot of her garden.
She also sent along a bit of a post-script story. It's good to know that there is some resilience to these sculptures...
"Before I tied him to the bench I have him on, a bear wandered along and swatted him around. I found him lying on the lawn with one arm extended over his head and his head turned in an awkward position…wings bent…etc. I got the pictures out that I had of him and got him back as good as new. He’s now fish- wired to the bench! Hasn’t been bothered since."
